Religious Education of Children
Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God. The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents. (CCC 2226)
Religious Education at the Cathedral of St Peter is designed to support parents in the faith formation of their children. Religious Education classes focus on Jesus and the Catholic faith. Classes help children prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
Classes for K through 8th grade are intended for students who are not currently attending a Catholic school. Religious Education classes for grades K - 8th grade meet on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. All parents and students are encouraged to attend Mass each weekend, and for all Holy Days of Obligation.
The sacramental preparation for either First Communion or Confirmation is a two year program.
